Careers Education
Curriculum >
At Allestree Woodlands School, we are passionate about supporting pupils through the process of deciding upon their next steps, after they finish school.
Our curriculum equips students with the tools to make informed decisions about their available routes and possible future careers, all within the context of further education providers and the local and national labour market.
The curriculum provides students with the tools to assess their strengths, weaknesses and interests to apply these to future career decisions, whilst encouraging aspirational choices, and challenging misconceptions and stereotypes.
We provide impartial guidance and advice on further education, training or employment across KS3 and KS4 and involve outside agencies such as employers and higher education providers.
Careers Education is delivered through the PSHE and Careers Curriculum in weekly PSHE lessons as well as employability skills and career paths being taught across all curriculum areas. Alongside this we run drop down days including Next Steps Day, CV Workshops, Mock Interviews, STEM events as well as Careers and Next Step Guidance.
The effectiveness of our Careers Provision is measured through a platform called Compass Plus. Each students’ individual provision is recorded and mapped against the Gatsby Benchmarks. Surveys are conducted with parents and students and we receive a termly independent local authority review.
